THE Department of Public Lands has designated two parcels of public land to the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs for sports enhancement activities in the CNMI.
DPL Secretary Marianne C. Teregeyo handed the copies of land designations to DCCA Secretary Robert Hunter on Friday morning at the DPL office in Dandan.
Hunter received the land designations on behalf of the Northern Marianas Island Football Association or NMIFA and the Natibu Sports Association.
Officers and members of the two sports associations also witnessed the land designation: House Floor Leader George Camacho, ,Eric Magofna, Amy Babauta Clarissa Sablan, Wesley Bogdan and Ross Zapanta.
Teregeyo said they issued the designations of public lands after they surveyed the properties and did the necessary paperwork which was signed by the attorney general.
The property designated to NMIFA is in Koblerville and is 40,000 square meters while the property designated to Natibu Sports Association is 10,000 square meters and is in Tanapag.
Camacho, a board member of Natibu Sports Association, thanked DPL and the DCCA secretaries for their support in the effort to provide the youth with a baseball field in Tanapag.
Camacho said the land designation is great news for the community and will help young people hone their soccer skills.
He and the other officers and members of the association are grateful to DPL for its decision and to DCCA for its support.
The baseball field in Tanapag will be convenient for the community as they will no longer need to go to Marpi or Capital Hill to practice or play baseball or football.
Bogdan of NMIFA said they plan to build and develop a sports facility in Koblerville for the benefit of CNMI children, adding that the facility will serve as a training ground for local soccer players.
Bogdan thanked DPL and the DCCA for their support and for making the land designation possible.
