Agrihan is the fourth independent island in the Northern Mariana Islands chain. The island was evacuated in 1990 due to the threat of volcanic activity, although in the end no erruption occurred. A settlement has since been reestablished in one of the four original villages, and as of September 2005 there were nine inhabitants
